Nintendo has officially announced the Switch 2 with a video. In the video, the company shows the new console. It also says the console will come out this year, but it does not give a specific release date. More information about the console will be shared during a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2.
The video shows that the Nintendo Switch 2 has a slightly different design than the first version of the console. It will have a second USB-C port, larger Joy-Cons that attach magnetically, and a bigger screen. The Switch 2 dock also has more rounded corners compared to the previous model. Earlier rumors say the Switch 2 will have an 8.4-inch screen, but Nintendo has not confirmed these details yet.
The video also includes clips of what seems to be a new Mario Kart game playable on the console. Nintendo highlights that the Switch 2 is backward compatible with games from the original Switch. This includes both digital games from the eShop and physical games.
There are not many other details about the console yet. Nintendo says more information will be shared on its website. The next Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2 will reveal more about the Switch 2.
Curious users will also have the chance to try out the Nintendo Switch 2 during an event in Amsterdam from May 9 to May 11. Tickets for this event will be given out through a random lottery. People can register for the lottery from January 18 to January 26.
